Do you remember to gather? It was something we were doing before 2022 and now we are still forced to keep our distance. However, there are still plenty of board games available to play with families locally or even with your friends online. In this list, we are going to highlight some of the best board games available for the Xbox One console platform. Now that these games are so different with genres mixed around fighting games, puzzles, racing titles, etc., we don't list these picks in any rank. Instead, these are just a few solid video game titles that we think you might want to check out.
Overcooked is a solid party game because it puts players in the role of a cook. With multiple dishes to prepare and little time to get them down, it's a game about teamwork as you try to fix dishes using an assortment of stations located around the kitchen. However, the kitchen is constantly evolving with new obstacles preventing players from accessing a certain area of the kitchen. This will force players to adapt quickly to whatever the dish calls for, whether it's focusing on another dish or helping someone else by finishing what they started.
#39 Overcooked 2
With Overcooked 2 you get even more unique places to play and different environmental hazards. The game basically features the same mechanics and objectives, but you will have a bit more content to play. That said, most might find the sequel a little more manageable. Still, that doesn't mean no changes were made, with one of the mechanics being able to throw in food to get the job done a little faster.
Moving out is much like our previous Overcooked picks. Rather than working in a kitchen, players work more like a moving company. Tasked with clearing buildings with all of their furniture, players have a time limit to get everything out of the building and into the moving truck. However, just like with Overcooked, there are plenty of hazards and oddly shaped furniture or hallways. Players will need to carefully get items out of the house without damage and in time. To aid in movement, multiple players can join in and help each other by lifting large furniture to more easily navigate the building or by throwing objects at each other.
While Nintendo dominated the platform fighting genre with Super Smash Bros, we have a pretty solid alternative. Brawlhalla is a platform fighter that gives players the same kind of experience with a variety of characters, items, and a plethora of levels to battle through. Best of all, this game is free, so it won't cost players anything to try it out today. Again, Nintendo has a pretty stacked roster of characters to choose from when battling against each other and while Brawlhalla has its own unique characters, they do have crossovers. In the past, the game has brought out characters from Tomb Raider, WWWE, Rayman, Shovel Knight, even The Walking Dead.
# 36 Crash Bandicoot Nitro-Fueled
Again, similar to the platform fighter genre, Nintendo was also dominant in the kart racing genre with Mario Kart. Originally, Sony chose to offer an alternative with Crash Team Racing which launched in 1999 for the PlayStation. Now, years later, we have received a remastered edition which is available on the Xbox One console platform. Much like the Mario Kart series, players race through a variety of courses and collect bonuses along the way.
These power-ups will give players a slight speed boost or can be used as attacks against other racers on the map. Again, the same way Mario Kart uses characters from Mario IP, we get different characters from the Crash Bandicoot franchise such as Crash, Coco, and Doctor Neo Cortex.
#35 Box Party Pack
The Party Pack box franchise in general is a solid series of board games. It's a title that features a collection of mini-games that range from charade-like games, by making jokes from a selection of words, to creating a rap battle by filling in lyrical gaps. Not to mention that this game is suitable for online play with only the host requiring an actual copy of the game. All secondary players can log into the game via web browsers or their smartphones by entering a unique code provided by the host.
# 34 Ligue Rocket
Rocket League is an indie title that blew up at launch. It is a makeshift soccer game in which players use futuristic cars equipped with rocket boosters and the ability to jump through the air. Meanwhile, there is a giant ball for players to hit into the opposing player's goal post. It's quite a difficult game with players having to go through a learning curve on game physics. Still, it has gained huge success and best of all since Epic Games acquired the development team independent, Psyonix, Rocket League has since gone free-to-play allowing players to form teams and compete.
# 33 Minecraft
Everyone knows what Minecraft is at this point, right? The video game was a huge global phenomenon as players were given a randomly generated world full of different biomes, creatures, villages, and hostile enemies. From there, it's all about trying to survive by building your base, collecting resources, and keeping your vitals in check. There's also the Creative Mode which gives players the ability to freely build and explore their world without needing to manage their hunger, health, or fight enemy monsters. With the developers at Mojang still updating this game, there's always something new coming out, whether it's a biome, unique item, or creature. Likewise, due to the nature of this list, it is also possible to connect online with friends and traverse a world built together.
#32 Gang Beasts
Gang Beasts is a hilarious brawler game. Players step into the role of a humanoid character who has fallen to a dangerous level. From there it's a brutal fight to kill your opponent. This is done by teetering towards them and fighting each other. When a player is knocked out, the opposing fighter can grab onto their body, lift them up, and attempt to throw them into danger such as the ledge of a huge skyscraper or into a pit of fire. During this time, those who are knocked out can attempt to wake up their character and get out of harm's way.
# 31 Broforce
Broforce is an indie title that might have gone under the radar for some of you. It is a side-scrolling run-and-gun title in which players battle against evil forces across foreign lands. Hoping to liberate the area, players have to fight all sorts of enemy troops and bosses, but the one thing that will keep them hooked is the various protagonists that can be unlocked and used. As players rack up kills or rescue hostages, the game will reward them with different 80s and 90s action heroes to enter. Players could take on the role of characters like John Rambo, Chuck Norris, Indiana Jones, or the Terminator, to name a few. Each character has their unique weapon attribute, like Indiana Jones using a whip which requires a bit narrower attack range.
#30 Castle Crashers
Castle Crashers is quite an iconic beat 'em up, a title that garnered a huge amount of attention when it launched as an Xbox 360 arcade game. Since then, the title has been remastered and released on other platforms. forms. Here, players take on the role of a knight who has to fight an evil wizard with his minions and monsters after kidnapping the princess of the kingdom. It is a side-scrolling title that packs a lot of action into a seven-hour game. Whether you played Castle Crashers when it first released in 2022 or just got into the title for the first time, it's still a very solid arcade game.
#29 Keep talking and no one explodes.
Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes is strictly a multiplayer puzzle game. In this title, one player is in a room with a bomb while the other players have different manuals. Without the ability to see the bomb, the player stuck in the room must walk around the entire bomb and explain what they see. From different symbols, wires and other modules, players with the manuals must figure out how to safely defuse the bomb. During this time, there is a time limit, so players will have to keep a stable line of communication, otherwise when the time is up if players get a module wrong, the bomb will explode.
# 28 Just Dance
Another iconic franchise that is a fun party game is the Just Dance series. This is a game that consists of dancing to the rhythms while imitating the movements displayed on the screen. With a selection of popular songs and dances choreographed with professional dancers, fans can go through this game as a beginner or as a dance enthusiast thanks to the different difficulty levels. As for the Xbox One, players can use the Kinect which will capture their body movements. While these games can be finicky when it comes to body detection and movement, they have always proven to be a hot seller with every installment release.
#27 Lego Games
Rather than making a specific game or getting too repetitive with this list, another selection of games to check out are the various Lego video games. The Lego titles have done incredibly well because they often offer a parody of the source material's narrative while retaining the brawling and puzzle-solving based game mechanics. There is a wide range of Lego games to choose from and they differ in the number of players that can participate. That said, they're generally a good choice for younger audiences. It boils down to deciding on a video game based on the source material that interests you. There are video games based on Star Wars, Marvel, DC, and The Lord of the Rings to name a few.
#26 Dark Pictures Anthology Man from Medan
After the success of the Until Dawn franchise, developers Supermassive Games chose to release a collection of horror titles featuring the same style of gameplay. This collection of games would be based on The Dark Pictures Anthology. Their first outing was Man of Medan where a group of friends went on a journey in search of a missing shipwreck. However, the friends soon discover that something much more sinister lurks under the ocean among the wreckage.
Much like Until Dawn, this is a story-driven title with plenty of choices to make to alter the storyline as well as the QTEs to complete. For the multiplayer aspect, players can join and take control of a character giving you the ability to make their choices and QTEs that can help or hurt the other group of characters.
#25 Little Hope Dark Pictures Anthology
Speaking of The Dark Pictures anthology, we should also mention Little Hope. At the time of writing this description, Little Hope is the latest installment available for the IP. Here players again follow a group of characters although in this story it is a group of students and their teacher. Stuck in a dense city of fog, the group realizes that they are not alone with many supernatural and chilling moments that players will have to go through. We won't spoil much more than that since these games are quite short to complete, but again the same multiplayer aspect of Man of Medan can be found here.
# 24 Collection Halo Master Chief
The Halo franchise is a core IP for Microsoft and is one of the video games to move console units. After so many installments for this franchise, 343 Industries has chosen to release a remastered collection giving Xbox One gamers a chance to relive these amazing video games. With the Halo Master Chief Collection, players get Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo ODST, and Halo 4. All games have been tweaked for fans with new visual enhancements for the modern platform. Likewise, players can still enjoy this game with a friend in co-op campaigns or join multiple players as they battle against each other through online matchmaking. Each game has its multiplayer equivalent, so the specific maps you might remember playing those games originally are still intact and ready to be brought down again.
#23 Ultimate Chicken Horse
Ultimate Chicken Horse is a platform racer. In this game, players are supposed to go through a level filled with obstacles placed by players. Here's the catch, if too many players can get through the map in time, players are forced to place more obstacles around the map until some players have too much trouble completing the course. At the end of the game, the player who has accumulated the most points wins the game. It's a simple game to pick up and play with new players able to quickly grasp how the title is played.
# 22 Round of golf
Party Golf is another board game that is very easy to understand and addictive to play. In this game, players experience an intense game of putt-putt. With a limited countdown, players must try to dip their ball into the hole. However, with so many obstacles and ledges placed around the hole, this game offers a challenge. Not to mention that there are many map variations, so players will have to hit their ball over wide open spaces and onto raised ledges almost like walking through a bit of a maze.
# 21 SpeedRunners
SpeedRunners is a fast paced platform runner. In this game, players attempt to be the last player standing in the course. Each character is given a grappling hook system and a few power-ups that can be triggered on the course as they attempt to run through it. However, the only way to eliminate opponents is to get so far that they fall behind the camera's view. It's all about speed and as players move through the level the camera begins to focus on the favorite. During this time, the player at the front of the pack will have less vantage point in front of them, giving them less time to maneuver around obstacles than the players behind.
#20 Lovers in a Dangerous Space
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime features up to four-player co-op. In the game, players float through space inside a spaceship. However, to move around safely, players will need to pass through the various stations of the craft to complete certain tasks. For example, to name a few, located around the ship are stations that correspond to shields, engine, and weapons. Players will work together to navigate levels while rescuing different animals or defeating enemy creatures. It's all about teamwork when working on the various stations around the ship.
#19 Rayman Legends
In Rayman Legends, Rayman and his friends discover mysterious paintings that have transported them to a mythical new world. To get home, Rayman and his company of comrades must jump, run and fight their way through each world. What makes it an especially fun game for local multiplayer is that Rayman Legends features four-player co-op. At any point in the game, three other friends can jump into the campaign seamlessly or there's even a series of different challenge-based modes.
#18 It’s quiz time
It's Quiz Time is a fun trivia game that can be played with multiple players. Connecting to games is pretty easy too, with the game looking a bit like Party Pack box. Through the use of an app, players will use the room code provided by the host and from there you can compete in trivia questions. The gameplay is very simple, with players simply tapping on the answers to the question. Fortunately, this game is still supported. For example, in 2022, we got an update that added a thousand new questions based on a wide range of topics, be it movies, music or news.
# 17 Mortal Kombat 11
The Mortal Kombat franchise is a huge intellectual property that has been around for years. After initially debuting in arcades, Mortal Kombat has since exploded into a successful cross-platform release. These games are iconic and over the years we have seen several new characters added to the roster and it has proven to be a fun fighting game. Players can compose their tournaments and compete to see who wins.
Currently, the latest installment in the franchise is Mortal Kombat 11, which adds a timeline game so we can see some of the most classic characters from the Mortal Kombat franchise and their costume setup. As of now, Mortal Kombat 11 is the latest installment available for the IP and it also comes with guest fighters. For example, with Mortal Kombat 11, players have access to Spawn, The Terminator, RoboCop, and The Joker.
Marooners is a collection of minigames for gamers that are suitable for younger audiences. Throughout games, players usually try to capture more gold than other players. This can take the form of mining underground while avoiding loose rocks from smashing, killing your character, or grabbing coins from a platform that will randomly break loose under players. It is family-friendly and can support up to six players online or four players locally.
# 15 Hyper Jam
Hyper Jam is an arena brawler that places players in a map that not only spits out hazards for players to avoid, but weapons for them to pick up and use against your opponents. From there, it's a battle to be the last player standing, but there's a catch at the end of every round. After the round, a random collection of perks is presented to players. Each player can select a boon, but the way those boons are distributed is by order of death. So the first player to die will be the first player to select which perks you can keep accumulating as the game continues.
# 14 TowerFall Ascension
TowerFall Ascension was released in 2022 and continues to be a solid action platformer. In this game, players compete using an arrow. With only one arrow needed to kill an opponent, the game quickly tenses as players rush around the map and fire arrows. Meanwhile, arrows can be picked up by giving players multiple shots to use against another player or by collecting a bonus that will appear randomly all over the map. These power-ups will give players additional buffs such as wings to fly or a shield to break an arrow. However, if the round takes too long to complete, the map will shrink in size, forcing players closer together.
# 13 Cuphead
Cuphead is a game that has taken the internet by storm simply because of its graphics. This game looked like an old cartoon from the 1930s with hand-drawn animation and faded colors. This is a racing and gun side scroller with light platforming levels to run. In the game we follow two brothers, Cuphead and Mugman who loses a bet to the devil. Now they owe him their souls, they manage to make a deal, if the two can go out and collect the souls that are owed to the devil, they can keep theirs. It is a brutal game that mainly focuses on boss fights. Much of the game revolves around memorizing enemy moves and unloading attacks on your opponent which will eventually turn into different enemy phases with new attacks sporadically.
# 12 Injustice 2
From the same development team that released Mortal Kombat 11, we have Injustice 2. This is a follow-up to the Injustice video game that pits DC Comics characters against each other after Superman sets up a new regime strict. Although this campaign continues with the narrative, the main reason we have Injustice 2 here is again much like Mortal Kombat, it's a fantasy fighting game.
This individual title has players using a wide array of both hero and villain DC Comic characters against each other in a wide array of themed map locations. Likewise, it is still a brutal game with over-the-top action sequences that players can pull off against their opponent. Not to mention that some characters will have special interactions with each other at the start of the game. For now, this is a game that has a pretty active community, but it's probably only a matter of time before we were getting the official announcement of Injustice 3.
# 11 Team Sonic Racing
Another kart racer to look into is Team Sonic Racing. It's a very similar game to Crash Bandicoot Nitro-Fueled and the Mario Kart franchise. With this game, as you can probably guess from the title alone, players race through a kart racer with iconic Sonic characters and themed levels. With characters like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Metal Sonic and Dr. Eggman, players will use their karts and race down memorable themed courses from previous installments of the Sonic video game. Again, like other kart racers, as players race through the course, they will grab different bonuses that improve them in terms of speed or items that can be used against other racers.
#10 Rock Band 4
The Rock Band franchise was a mega-hit when it first launched, but years later we finally got a new installment for the franchise. Rock Band 4 brought out the same gameplay mechanics with players using plastic guitars, drums, and a microphone to give players the thrill of being in a band. Here players can join together with the various instruments and attempt to complete a rhythm based game which as of now is the latest mainline Rock Band video game to be released. If you haven't played this series of games since the IP debuted in 2022, dust off those peripherals and try the game again with friends on your next hangout.
#9 Minecraft Dungeons
Minecraft is a game you already know. It's a title that's been out for years and is aimed at players young and old. You can easily get lost in the adventure of building up resources during the day and fighting bad guys at night. That said, there are plenty of creative minds who spend countless hours working on new builds or even replicas of towns, buildings, and even art through Minecraft's creative mode. A new spin-off title is now available. We are referring to Minecraft Dungeons, a title based on classic dungeon crawling.
Instead of placing blocks or building worlds, Mojang's development studio is building the game to be a dungeon crawler where your goal is to stalk ruins in search of loot. Players will find that the game features procedurally generated worlds, so you'll constantly be guessing where to venture into the abyss. There are a few differences in this particular installment that you'll find in other dungeon crawlers. This is a very easy starter experience for players new to the genre. You won't have any class-based locks, which means any gear you come across is usable with everyone in your party.
# 8 Fuzion Frenzy
Fuzion Frenzy is an older title that launched in 2001 for the Xbox, but it's a backward compatible title and should be reviewed. It is a four-player mini-game title with over forty different rounds to play. Whether it's climbing a tower and being the last players to dodge the endless obstacles that come your way or ending up in giant caged balls when you hit yourself off a platform, this game is just a blast to play. Luckily, thanks to this backwards compatibility, gamers can enjoy this game with slight visual enhancements and improved frame rate so that you still have fun playing this game today.
# 7 Borderlands 3
The Borderlands franchise is an iconic shooter. Just like previous versions, you'll find Borderlands 3 a bit more fun to play with others. Here, players once again fight against enemies in different environments while undertaking quests and helping those in need. However, at the heart of this game, gamers will still find it to be an exciting action RPG FPS. Here, players mainly take on the role of a vault hunter in search of powerful technology. Luckily, if you're new to the franchise, you don't have to worry about playing previous installments to enjoy Borderlands 3. This game features some characters from the past, but Borderlands 3 is suitable for newcomers without having to play installments. previous .
#6 Call of Duty Warzone
Call of Duty Warzone is a great party game if you're playing online with friends. The battle royale franchise is still growing in popularity and with Call of Duty having a free-to-play title available in the marketplace, there's a very active community to contend with. In Call of Duty Warzone, players can join squads online where you will find yourself on a large map in search of loot and better weapons. From there, it's a battle against other squads until there's only one squad left.
This is an intense FPS game with lots of perks, weapons, and gear scattered across the map. Players are rewarded for exploring the different areas, but you'll want to be extremely careful as you never know if another party is waiting inside a building or has set traps. Likewise, like other battle royale games, the map will continue to shrink, forcing players closer together until only one group is left standing.
# 5 Apex Legends
Speaking of online battle royale games, there's always Apex Legends. It was a surprise battle royale release from Respawn Entertainment, the folks behind Titanfall. In this game, players can be grouped into teams of three with the list of hero type characters. Each character has a hero ability that will add something to help players more in battle, however, this is still an FPS game where players can drop down, gather better weapons and gear. To play with a few characters, players can pick someone like Caustic which is a tank that plays off poison gas attacks, Horizon which can manipulate gravity, or Lifeline which adds healing potential to your downed characters.
#4 Drawn 2
Drawful 2 is a standalone sequel to Drawful from The box Party Pack. It's a game that, again, only requires the host to have a copy of the game before setting a code for other players to join in on the fun. In the game, players are given a wacky phase to draw with other players forced to guess which drawing is from the presented assortment of phases. Players only receive points if the party selects the correct phase. Just like the other Party Pack box games, this is a very simple game to understand and hilarious to play with friends. That said, since this is a drawing game, the gameplay works better if everyone can log into the game with their smartphone, which would make it easier to draw a picture.
# 3 Mrs.
Do you remember the Kinect? The developers didn't use this device too much in a way that got the gamers excited. However, Fru is an exception to this as it is a fun little platformer. The game is played with two players where one player uses a controller to maneuver a character around the platforms while the secondary player is on the Kinect. With the body of the secondary character, they can create or take different platforms, which creates a bit of a puzzle game to figure out how to move through the levels. It's a Kinect hidden gem worth the purchase.
#2 Fall Guys
Fall Guys is a game that took the world by storm in 2022. Back when we were all locked indoors and going through the start of these quarantines, Fall Guys offered players an escape from reality. It is a wacky battle royale title where players battle against other players in a series of mini-games. From racing through obstacle courses to competing in randomly generated teams, players go through this game with the hope of being the last player standing.
While this game has always allowed players to join and group them into teams when possible, a new team-oriented mode is in the works. This would allow everyone on a team to earn a crown if one of the players on the team manages to finish the game as the last player standing. It's still a game where every player takes care of themselves, but at the end of the game, all you need is just one of your team members to win to reap the glory as well.
# 1 Cake Bash
Cake Bash is a fun little brawler that puts players in the role of tasty little pastries. During this game, players are given different mini-games to compete against, such as competing against each other as they strive to get as many candies on their bodies as possible before time runs out. With the ability to hit and use weapons against each other, players can also knock down an opposing player's candies to collect them. Not to mention that the game will drop different hazards in the level which will again knock down the different small candies you managed to collect during the round.
