Guillermo del Toro doesn't think he'll develop a game again

Acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro was recently interviewed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast where he revealed that he doesn't see himself developing another video game in the future after Silent Hills was unfortunately cancelled.

At The Game Awards earlier this month, Guillermo del Toro teased fans, saying, ā€œYou know, a franchise that I like the art direction in? Silent Hill. Hope we get a new one. This seemingly fleeting comment left fans of the franchise upset, hoping it was a clue to an upcoming game. Unfortunately, that was not the case. When asked if he was working on Silent Hill-related projects, del Toro said, ā€œNo, not at all. Ā»

The now defunct Silent Hills Guillermo del Toro collaborated with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima for game developers Konami. Del Toro said of making games, "It's just one of those things in my life that doesn't make sense. He explained this tease at The Game Awards, saying, ā€œI just wanted to tickle Konami's ribs because I don't get it. It was so perfect, what we were going to do was so exciting.

Guillermo del Toro hasn't had the best of luck when it comes to game development. He previously worked with Rue Saints developer Volition on a survival horror game called Insane. That game was unfortunately canceled in 2022. While del Toro said the game "as an exercise in storytelling" fascinated him, he also shared, "I don't think I would develop a game again because I am the video game albatrossā€.

Silent Hillsā€ The cancellation was a big disappointment for players. A playable teaser for the game was released in 2022, along with the announcement of the game. The teaser proved successful, but it wasn't enough to save the game. The teaser has since been removed from PlayStation Store and is unplayable on PS5.

Although there has been no official announcement for Silent Hill sequels, Video Game Chronicles recently reported that Konami has more than one game in the works for the franchise. Until then, Silent Hill the game from creator Keiichirō Toyama Slitterhead was recently revealed at The Game Awards with a possible 2023 release date.
